Dryness peeling vs. athlete's foot peeling
Dryness peeling is typically: dry, papery skin coming off in thin sheets; no itching; no smell; no redness; affects mostly soles and heels. Reversible with a moisturizing routine.
Athlete's foot peeling is typically: moist or macerated skin between toes; itching that worsens with sweat; sometimes redness or a faint odor; often more severe on one foot than the other. Needs antifungal cream (clotrimazole or terbinafine), not moisturizer.
The one-week routine for dryness peeling
- Stop hot showers and baths — lukewarm only.
- Stop foot files and pumice stones immediately.
- Each night: 10-minute lukewarm soak with baking soda or Epsom salt.
- Within 60 seconds of patting dry: urea cream (10-20%) on soles and heels.
- Cotton socks immediately. Sleep.
Peeling typically stops within 3-5 nights. By day 7, the skin is usually fully smooth. From day 8 onward, drop to twice weekly maintenance.
